CUNY Middle States Council Workshop Series: Institutional Effectiveness
Date and Time: March 1st, 2019 from 9AM to 3PM
Location: BMCC Fiterman Building, Rooms 1306/1307
Presenter: MSCHE Workshop Provider, Dr. Christopher Shults – BMCC
Institutional effectiveness reflects the degree to which a college or university is achieving its institutional mission. The increasing prevalence of the term means that higher education institutions will need to better integrate assessment, planning and resource allocation for the purpose of improving student learning and the environment for student success. Sound complicated? It doesn’t have to be.
This session will assist colleges and university faculty, staff, and administrators in understanding that their institutions already possess all the elements required to design and implement an institutional effectiveness system. At issue is the lack of an integrated planning approach and institutional effectiveness system that allows the institution to “connect the dots.” As a result, institutions often maintain numerous, disjointed assessment and planning processes and struggle to communicate their alignment and document mission achievement. This workshop will take participants, step-by-step, through the development, implementation, and evaluation of an institutional effectiveness system designed to enhance student learning and success. As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:
- Provide their own contextual definition of institutional effectiveness;
- Explain the connection between institutional effectiveness, student learning, and supporting the environment for student success;
- Utilize an integrated planning framework to design a system that connects assessment, planning, and resource allocation;
- Demonstrate the role of strategic and operational planning in impacting institutional effectiveness;
- Understand how institutional effectiveness’ is connected to the MSCHE standards.
This is an intermediate level workshop. The anticipated audience will include faculty, staff, and administrators with planning, institutional effectiveness, and accreditation responsibilities.
RSVP by February 22nd, 2019 (the workshop is full and rsvp closed)
Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
